We started using buttons with my pup when she was 10 weeks old, and she took to it incredibly quickly! It’s been 3.5 years and she’s a pro. This last round I added EIGHTEEN new buttons (all familiar words) and she began using them the same day. Every time we add more she seems to do a skills leap, and gets creative with new combinations to express things that aren’t represented by a specific button.
We’re about to bring a new puppy home and look forward to starting her tiny board, too!
I’m glad I decided to go with the newest buttons for my last order. I’d considered it before but hesitated with the extra cost, however I wish I’d made the switch with my previous purchase because the sound quality is SO much better. I’ll be gradually replacing her original and speaker buttons to the connect line over time for sure.
We love these so much that we have two sets! The idea was geared toward one cat but three others joined in. So with their different interests we had to expand. It's been a big learning curve for our whole house but we're all committed and are excited for the journey!
Incredible experience so far. FluentPet set us up for success! I was able to attend the 1 hour live course prior to even receiving the system. While I waited for it to arrive I thought long and hard about where and how we’d start. I knew “treat” would be a key word and my GSP picked it up within 5 minutes. He knew- push this button (that smells like treats - because I put it in a bag of treats for a few minutes) and mom or dad gives me a treat! He then had us working overtime at the treat distribution factory (hehe). He also got overly excited so we had to put the buttons away for the first night (Frank has a history of medical issues when getting overly excited). We added a “scratches” button and he loved that- our yorkie puppy loved benefiting from all the presses too. The puppy did hit the treat button twice. We’re working on a potty button that should be easy since we’ve used potty bells in the past- but the pups are still choosing to scratch at the door instead of hit the button. I am going to ask the FluentPet community for help and get their opinion! I love this company and their community!
We started when our dog was already 9 months (now a year). It still takes time for her to recognize buttons as primary communication. Long road ahead, she didn't seem to be very into it, but she understands and uses them when she wants to.
Adding the extra hex tiles really helped our second learner interact with the sound board! As soon as there was the additional space, she laid on the board, napped on the board, and inadvertently made her first presses. It was only a matter of days after that when she got her first independent presses! Considering she didn’t respond well to target training, this was huge! We also have extra buttons for adding more words shortly. Glad I was able to get the kit on sale, too. I will probably get this expansion kit again when the time comes when space and buttons are needed.
I love what this product can do, it's amazing and I am using in my business to help my dogs communicate with others. It's a whole lot more than just teaching them to talk.
I have the Connect buttons and love that I can see a running feed of what Ruby presses. She's quite talkative, and regularly presses while we're out of the house. I have our buttons mounted on a board that leans against the wall because we don't have the floor space, and it works really well for her. I'll be ordering our next set of 12 buttons shortly!
He starts to understand that someting good is happening when he touches the buttons and the mat, but im working on targetpractice so he uses his paws more than his body 😝
He is 8 Months and he knows some words since we have been talking to him everyday since he was born. He knows words like: outside, food, treat, tube (liquid treat) and cuddletime 😊
So far they’re picking up on the fair quickly, but they do have a favorite button. We are still working on learning and will continue to advance.
It’s fun and it gives them another way to communicate.
Our buttons have reduced stress in our cat Foxy. She is able to communicate her wants and needs and that has truly changed her behavior. Our other cats are feeling the difference in her attitude and they are getting along so much better.
Started with a cheap set off Amazon. Quickly realized we needed something we could hear better. Love that it’s louder and I can track progress. I wish I could multi select to delete presses. Otherwise I am very pleased
I love my dog’s buttons! They work really well and I’ve had no issues so far. There was a bit of a learning curve with setting them up, but the instructions and app are clear and it’s been so much fun. It’s lovely hearing what my dog wants and I can’t wait to grow his repertoire!
My Cat Ghost took a while to press the buttons hard enough, but he very quickly understood the meanings and what would happen if he pressed a button.
Within about a month he learned to use play, outside, find it (I learned about this one in the boot camp, thanks to Janine, Twiggy, Odin, Freya, it was the one that really made it click for Ghost, cause we do that a few times a day), all done, later and now.
We were finally able to upgrade to the Connect system (Shipping took over a month :/) and with that are now able to introduce more buttons.
Ghost has in the meantime started to use the existing buttons for other things as well, like when he needs help with his puzzle he pushes 'find it'. I have introduced the words I want to teach next, like food, puzzle, help, bye bye, and will slowly place the buttons, so he learns the placement.
It's been such a joy and I can't wait to see where the journey takes us :)

Gus figured out his buttons quickly a few years ago when he was hitting the "food" button and smacking his auto feeder.
He's since learned "play" "love you" "brushings" as well as "butt" "head" and "side" to tell me where he wants to get brushed.
Had to buy more buttons since he's worn out his "brushings" and "head" button!
I can't recommend FluentPet enough! Since I started using it with my dog, Sullivan, our bond has deepened in ways I never imagined. The system is so intuitive, and it's amazing to see Sully express his wants and needs clearly. Whether it's asking for a walk, playtime, or just to go outside, he's able to communicate with me in such a direct way. It's been so rewarding to witness this growth in our relationship, and it feels like I truly understand him now. FluentPet has taken our connection to a whole new level! Sully took to button training like a champ! We started in January 2021, he is a bit sassy, but aren’t we all!
My kit arrived yesterday! I am impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of the design. However, I have a recommendation for the base — the charging cord takes effort to plug and unplug because the tile connector pieces have to be removed every time. Also, the designated slot for the cord makes the connector in that spot not fit properly. (I guess that connector is not intended to be used while the cord is plugged in?) The cord actually fits pretty well at a corner between two connectors, but the jack is still buried. The cord would be easier to unplug if the jack was more accessible, and then the tile connectors would never have to be removed.
We have been doing buttons with our almost 4 year old wheaten since she was 10 weeks old. She currently has 50 buttons, We had the very first fluent pet board and have upgraded to the connect system. It is much more streamline and I love that we get alerts when buttons are pressed. We just added the Petcube camera and pan to install soon. We readjusted our board to take up less floor space so our pup is adjusting to the new style and relearning button positions. She has already started randomly pressing buttons to figure out where everything is. Hoping this works out better for us in the long run. Button battery life on the old system was very short and we were always replacing the batteries so I’m going since they changed the battery type in these that they last longer! Definitely recommend the system. It is amazing to see how much your pets really know and how easily they can communicate. Much less whining and barking when they can tell you what they need.
The new hex tiles have made creating Jasper’s communication board so much easier and allowed us to group concepts. Jasper had already gone from 6 large buttons to 12 small buttons, increasing his vocabulary by 50%.
The system works as described. I'd make a couple suggestions - first, charging the base is a pain. The connection should have been added to the side rather than the bottom. The same issue with pressing the button on the base to sync it. When the base is connected with other mats and the edge pieces, pulling it apart is really unappealing. I realize that the designers were likely trying to keep a dog from pressing that button inadvertently, but there are other ways of accomplishing that without making it hard for the human to use. The last constructive note is that the feet that one is supposed to press into the base haven't stayed in or haven't stayed in as well as they should. That's from our purchase of two basic systems since we have a two story home. In one case, I'm working with your customer service because I cannot get them to stay in period and it's quite annoying. If I can't connect the base to the mat(s), my pup is MUCH more likely to want to pick the mat up and chew it. If they're connected, he seems to not be quite as inclined. Last notes on the phone app and I use Android. The app occasionally doesn't pick up events... and sometimes doesn't want to let me assign them. I have to exit the app and go back in. There's a probably detailed software issue or two going on that I wouldn't have a clue about. 98% of the time it works as advertised.
I did not know what to expect as a first time customer; but, I'm so happy.
FluentPet has provided outstanding products and services each and every time. I've purchased over the past couple months the Connect Starter Kit, the Connect 12-Button Expansion Kit, multiple extra tiles and also ordered extra buttons as Ruby (my poodle) grew her vocabulary. Very pleased with the high quality of the Connect System--tiles, buttons, base, and accessories.
Definitely 5+++ customer service and beyond.
Toffee is up to eight words (water, hungry, outside, play, training, scritches, treat, all done). She consistently requests training and play, narrates when she has just had a drink of water, and lets us know when she is hungry - we slept in a few days ago, so she went downstairs to her buttons, pressed "hungry", and waited until we came down to feed her. Lol! Scritches is her newest word, and she is starting to use it occasionally. She is especially chatty right after she has eaten dinner and wants to do all the things before winding down for the night. We just got more buttons, and are hoping to expand her vocabulary in the next few weeks.
I thought it will be tough, not because of my child but because of me, I’m not a very good trainer! BUT omg it took less than a week till she started pressing her buttons.
I used “Love” (which kinda just means she gets pets and cooing) and “Play” at first, which was confusing for her, because she just associate pressing the button to just some kind of response from me. But I added a “Food” button, and she started realising the difference between the buttons!!!
Surprisingly, she uses “Play” much more than “Food”!
Also, sometimes after I leave home for work, she press “Love”, I get a notification and sees her just pressing “Love” and staring at the door. I think she’s saying she misses me and want me to come back! Will definitely be adding a “Mum” button soon! But she’s still mashes buttons often so we are gonna be taking it nice and slowly.
10/10 no regrets for me and the child!!!

The system has been fun to use. I started with the starter pack, and my learner Dublin took to it really fast so I decided to invest in this system. She’s quickly gotten up to 9 buttons and I’ll likely add a few more this week. It’s really cute when I put a new one down, because she will press it immediately about 10-20 times while staring down the speaker as if committing the word to memory! Other times she will miss a button or it won’t go off like she wants and will get angry and paw at the speaker. I also like that it automatically updates the app, because I don’t feel like I’d keep very close track to presses otherwise.

The base keeps getting disconnected randomly. I was away for a week and it disconnected from the wifi and the buttons all disconnected. It took a message to support to try and push a firmware update again for them to all reconnect.

I'm shocked by how quickly loki started picking up buttons once we got the louder / connected set. The first time he realized we were listening/ reacting he was so excited- I think asking to go outside is more exciting than actually going outside.

Jim just pressed he first buttons today. It was so fun. He pressed "go for a walk," and immediately he ran to point at his leash and harness. When we got back, I got on my phone and in a minute I heard him press "help" and it turned out he had got his bone stuck under the t.v.
He has seen us model the uttons about 60 times, and he had one accidental press a while back. After the accidental press I treat to encourage him and he really didn't like thatso we kept just showing him and waiting.
I got this model because Jim doesn't like loud sounds and this model alows me to move the speaker away so that its not speaking right at him when he presses. I still have to talk gently when I record his buttons though, to get the volume just right.
I'm really excited to have given Jim this new way to communicate and interact with us.

It took our dog Toby a couple months to use his first word but you can see he's enthusiastic about it now! We did the Button Bootcamp and within a few days he had multiple words. Now he has quite a few and we're always adding more. He barks so much less now that he can communicate more clearly!
But in this video you can see a Toby tantrum. Which is so cute and so much better than barking!

Next thing we knew, she was rocking that PBS button like it was her job! I had to teach her the 'all done' and 'later' buttons real quick. But honestly? She loved it! She went from spamming buttons left and right to putting together full sentences. This morning, she woke me up with 'mama, Jade hungry now please'. Had to add that 'please' in there though; can't have my mini-me being rude! 😂
Now Stella? Couldn't care less. She's enjoying them treats without lifting a finger. Typical little sister, am I right? But hey, I'll keep modeling these buttons for both of them until they're ready for more. Watching Jade go at it with glee is hilarious! That little Einstein is going places!

Loki started using buttons in July 2023 and really took off after I took the Let’s Get Them Pressing course. She went from 3 to 53 buttons within a couple months! She has told us about a couple ear infections, tight hips from an injury, and has even requested an ice pack! This is of course, is in addition to requesting all the food and treats! Getting buttons for her and our other 2 cats has been such an amazing journey!

Nothing is more gratifying than seeing your hard work modelling pay off! My learner Louis & I started with 2 buttons then upgraded to 12 connect & now have expanded his vocabulary with 6 more connect buttons. It feels great giving him the option to communicate more specifically as we go on our journey.

I just received the extra set of hextiles and connect buttons. Rosie was ready to use last two buttons from the starter set of 12. It had beet about two and a half months since I started teaching her using buttons, and she is using them all and every day. She is very needy and bossy and surpassed my modeling presses by almost 400 presses. She is using combinations of different buttons as well to tell me what she wants.
