Bellatrix is now really on a Roll and is learning more and more
Pressing her first word independently took *nine* months--but our time was well-spent: full of enrichment, bonding activities and fun (my older learner loved those months of learning sessions, lots of purring and excitement). Now, less than two months after her first independent press, G has 28 buttons and wants more, and our relationship has evolved in unexpected and amazing ways. I can't imagine our lives without words.
I was watching videos of cats pressing buttons and noticed my cat was watching along with me. I started training him to do tricks like high five and touch, moving to a toy button that I had laying around. He would touch it while I held it to get a treat, then I put the button on the floor and got him to touch it for a treat. Then getting him to put weight on the button to activate it by pressing it for him, moving on to pushing his paw down. It took about a week for him to learn he could press it down himself.
Once I got my first 12 buttons for him, he knew what to do, as I chose words that I used often with him, such as play, pets, scritches, Mum, and Love you. He now uses 18 buttons and has space for more! It's so rewarding to expand his world with communication, and taking the guess work out of his body language. He's a happier cat, and when he presses "Mum, Love You" while squinting his eyes at me, it's the greatest feeling ever.
Archie is usiing 7 buttons at this time. The biggest obstacle was combining the hextiles I wish I started that way….he was doing really well well with them separate but once it was time to combine them I felt like he had to relearn everything and it was really confusing for him.
The buttons have developed a very demanding cat!! But we love that, knowing what she wants. It is like having a little kid in the house. She knows our named, uses a variety of food related buttons and toy related buttons and will press the “all done button” when we are sitting around - I.e. to say that we are all done.(time for play) It took about 5 weeks to learn her first button. After a year she has 28 ! Sometimes using 2 at at a time. Her Instagram is : @missmaisiemuffin.
My #ogslov÷ teaining time. They are working dogs and it sometimes
seems li(e th÷y don't un#÷rst!nd ×hy to ise the ×ords. They have their ownway of communicating.they spin their bowls to get food and water, they touch my walker after a bark to go oitside or potty, wh÷n its ti?e for treats they touch or bring me the treat jar. When one wants to go to the store he brings me my shoes. When I ignore that he literally throws my shoes at me I know the buttons will increase the communication overall
This is a replacement button for my first Fluent Pet button that my dog learned on. She only has one ("Outside") and she uses it consistently. This newer version is much clearer (and louder) than the one I started with 5 years ago.

Hi Natalie. Your learner's starting words should meet all four of the following criteria: highly motivating and meaningful to your learner, objects or things you can do with your learner right at the soundboard, things you can model quickly and frequently, and you are able to respond to every time they press - even if it's accidental. Please join the FluentPet Community for all the instructional resources you'll need!
I first presented the ONE button I bought on May 9th. To be honest, I wasn’t sure that my newly adopted, two year old shelter dog would be able to learn to use buttons.
Today she pressed the button all on her own. It is her first press, only 12 days of modeling the button press/go outside action.
I’m so thrilled that she CAN do this and someday she’ll be able to tell me exactly what she needs, and I can respond in a more timely manner.
Thanks FluentPet, Bunny, and Ms. Devine! We’re off and running!
The buttons have been pretty good so far and I have purchased them multiple times. My only complaint is with the batteries as I have had a few die a month or so after I purchased the buttons. My cats find the buttons easy to press now and I like that they fit snugly into the hextiles.
1 of the 12 buttons does not work but the others have fairly good sound and are easy for the cat to activate. Only one cat is using them but she LOVES them.

Hi Kimberly. We're sorry to hear about your Button. But it is covered under our 2-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Please email info@fluent.pet and our Customer Support Team will be happy to help!
I know a lot of animals use these, but for cats I can't help but think button pushing isn't natural or intuitive. They are more likely to pull on a trigger or upright tab.
Store owner replied:
Hi Jenna. Many of our customers have successful cat Learners. We have a mentorship call in The FluentPet Community called: Cat Chat: Teaching Smaller Learners that you might find helpful 🙂

Hi Jerry. Have you signed up for the free Button Bootcamp included with your order? You should have received an email with more information by now, but if you don't see it, please email info@fluent.pet and our Customer Support Team will be happy to help!
Love! Size is great and like the ability to scale up. Volume ans clarity are good also. Funky battery for replacement.
Store owner replied:
Hi Mary. Thank you for leaving your review. I have sent you an email about the funky battery. Please check your spam folder if you don't see it in your inbox.
We're still early in the process with our dog, Rocky. But he is so completely invested in the buttons! He'll stare down at them, finally press something, and then look right to us to respond. He's only using a few buttons for now, but we can't wait to expand his vocabulary!
I bought these buttons specifically because I heard they were easier to press than other buttons out there. If you have a small pet who has a hard time pressing buttons these are a great option! My 5lb rabbit has no problem at all.
It's been Slow! my cats know the words but can't seem to make the connection. but I have to admit I've been inconsistent. And I've had a couple of surgeries in the middle of trying to train.
She is catching on well. Complaint is that buttons do not stay in place. If she happens to paw it a bit fast or repeatedly, button pops out. Happens more than I would like. Have to stop what we're doing to put button back in place.
Store owner replied:
Hi Doris. It is great to hear that your learner is catching on to the Buttons. It sounds like she is an established Button presser, but just needs to practice her technique or precision a wee bit 😊 Our Learning Center provides a lot of helpful resources. The module about Target Training can be found here: https://fluent.pet/blogs/learning-center/lets-get-them-pressing
THANK YOU for making buttons with the speaker on top! This is a huge help for those of us with carpet and a ton of traffic noise outside.

Hi Jessie. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. It is feedback such as yours that helps us to understand what our customers want!
Communication has helped Roscoe gain a ton of confidence and helped us in diagnosing his IBD, finding knots in his back ("back ouch"), confirming that he gets headaches ("head ouch" - he has always pressed his head against things), and given him the ability to express his grief in losing our other cat Rocky. There's so much that he wanted to tell us, and now he can!
Store owner replied:
Hi Jessie. Thank you for leaving your heartfelt review and letting us know how helpful the buttons have been for Roscoe and your family. It is absolutely wonderful that Roscoe has been able to express himself.
My cat loves laxer pointers and playing games on my iPad but I’ve been looking for a way to have her ask for those items so I don’t overstimulate her. These buttons have been great. Easy to record the words. Also easy for her to press and even easier to hear. She took to it quickly (within a day). It’s been a great purchase :)
Store owner replied:
Hi Anna-Maria. Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your feedback. It was feedback from our customers that had helped us create the Speak Up Button, and because we are an innovative company, will help us to help you moving forward as well.
